Postpartum shedding is one of the most disorienting parts of early motherhood. This is very true for women who are already adjusting to a body, a schedule, and a self that doesn’t feel familiar yet. Most of the hair will grow back. The question is what you do during the months it doesn’t look like it will.
During pregnancy, hormonal changes keep more of your hair in the active growth phase than usual. This is why so many women feel like their hair is at its best in the third trimester. After delivery, those hormones shift back, and the hair that was held in the growth phase enters the shedding phase all at once. The shedding usually begins 2–4 months postpartum, peaks around 4–6 months, and gradually evens out over the following 6–12 months.
For most women, the hair grows back. For some women, it doesn’t fully return to its pre-pregnancy density. We’ve seen this with women after multiple births or with other contributing factors like thyroid changes or low iron.
Either way, the months in between are the months that hurt. That’s where IHS comes in.
The IHS Link System bridges the months between “the shedding has started” and “the regrowth has caught up.” It restores the density and coverage you remember without interfering with your natural regrowth, your feeding routine, or your sleep. For thinning that’s more about volume than coverage, extensions offer a simpler way to get your fullness back.
The Link System attaches to existing hair with small links. So, nothing prevents new hairs from growing in.
No glue, no chemicals, no harsh ingredients. Nothing that touches the scalp other than the small links and your own hair.
The system holds through a wash, sleep, exercise or as you hold a baby and take a one-handed shower. Nothing to remove at night, nothing to fuss with.
The first appointment is always a free 60-minute consultation in our private Beverly Hills studio with founder Leanne Mills. You can bring the baby. You can come on your lunch break. You can come at the end of a hard day.
You will share your history. How the pregnancy went, when the shedding started, what your hair was like before, what you actually want it to feel like now. Leanne will look at the condition of your scalp and existing hair in person, walk you through whether the IHS Link System is right for you, and give you a quote before you leave.
If your hair is going to recover on its own in a few months and you don’t need a system, she will tell you that too and provide you with some alternatives.
Most clients come in once the shedding has clearly started or once they can see the change in their part, ponytail, or hairline. Which is usually 3–6 months postpartum. But there is no wrong time. A consultation is free, and Leanne can give you a sense of what to expect even if you decide a system isn’t right for you yet.
No. The Link System attaches to existing hair using small links. Nothing blocks new hair from growing in. As your regrowth comes in, the system is adjusted around it at each maintenance visit.
Yes. The Link System uses no glue, no tape, no chemicals, and nothing absorbable. It is just small metal links and 100% human hair attached to your existing hair. There is nothing on or in the scalp that should affect breastfeeding.
Most postpartum clients keep the system in for 6–12 months while their regrowth catches up, then taper off as their natural density returns. Some women decide they prefer the look and feel of having a system long-term and stay with us. Others remove it entirely once their hair recovers. There’s no commitment to either path.
Yes. The studio is private, and Leanne is a mother. Bring whoever you need to bring. We’ll work around it.
The free consultation is private, in person, and there is no pressure to book a service afterward. Just an honest conversation with someone who has helped many women through exactly this part of motherhood.
